Caregiver Burnout

You're doing everything you can to take care of your loved one.

But nobody told you how to take care of yourself while doing it.

And now you're running on empty.

You're exhausted.

You're stressed.

You feel guilty every time you think about resting.

Here's the truth:

Most family caregivers make the same mistakes that lead straight to burnout.

And the worst part?

Nobody warns you about them until it's too late.

I've been there.

When I was caring for both my parents, I made every mistake in the book.

I ignored the warning signs.

I pushed through the exhaustion.

I told myself I'd rest "later."

Later never came.

That's why I created this blog page.

To help you avoid the mistakes I made.

To give you actionable tips that actually work.

To show you how to protect your health while caring for someone you love.

COMMON CAREGIVER MISTAKES (AND HOW TO FIX THEM)

Mistake #1: Waiting Until You're Burned Out to Ask for Help

Most caregivers wait until they're completely exhausted before reaching out. By then, the damage is done.

Fix it: Ask for help NOW.

Not when you're desperate.

Make a list of 3 people you can call when you need a break. Even 30 minutes of relief matters.

Mistake #2: Skipping Meals and Sleep

You tell yourself you'll eat after you finish this one task.

You stay up late because there's always more to do.

Your body pays the price.

Fix it: Set alarms for meals.

Protect your sleep like it's a doctor's appointment.

You can't care for anyone if you collapse.

Mistake #3: Ignoring Your Own Health Needs

You cancel your own doctor appointments.

You skip your medications.

You push through pain because "someone else needs you more."

Fix it: Schedule your appointments first.

Put them on the calendar before anything else.

Your health isn't optional.

Mistake #4: Trying to Do Everything Alone

You think asking for help makes you weak.

You believe nobody can do it as well as you.

So you carry the entire load by yourself.

Fix it: Delegate one task this week.

Just one.

Let someone else handle grocery shopping, laundry, or meal prep.

You don't have to do it all.

Mistake #5: Feeling Guilty About Self-Care

Every time you think about doing something for yourself, guilt creeps in.

"How can I relax when they're suffering?"

Fix it: Self-care isn't selfish.

It's survival.

Take 10 minutes today to do something that recharges you.

Read.

Walk.

Breathe.

You deserve it.
